Proceedings From Scientific Conference and ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OLUYOLE 2026

The 59 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) was convened in Ibadan, Nigeria, from the 24 to the 28 of November 2025. Under the theme “Reproductive Health Benefits: Panacea for Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference extensively discussed the worsening maternal mortality ratio and major contributors to this ugly situation, ranging from  inadequate fund allocation for health in the National and subnational budgets, insecurity and emigration of health workers to greener pastures, among other factors. However, considering the 2030 target for attaining the SDGs, Nigeria can still improve on the poor indices if adequate measures are put in place

The Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) is the umbrella professional organization of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians in Nigeria. Established in 1965 and registered as a Non-Governmental Organization in 1999, SOGON is committed to advancing women’s rights and ensuring the highest possible standards of physical, mental, reproductive, and sexual health and wellbeing for Nigerian women throughout their lives.
